Our Swiss National Science Foundation funded PRO-GIDSCI study seeks a motivated PhD candidate investigating the effects of probiotic and prebiotic supplementation on gastrointestinal health in individuals with chronic SCI. This innovative research program explores the gut-brain axis and its role in SCI-related gastrointestinal complications, potentially informing future clinical guidelines and improving patient quality of life. The PhD candidate will be registered at the University of Lucerne with an advisory team led by Prof. Claudio Perret and experts in translational SCI research, clinical medical research, and patient-reported outcomes.

Your responsibility
- Developing a PhD research plan and writing scientific papers as part of the PhD thesis
- Reviewing scientific literature, recruitment and management of study participants and conducting data collection
- Performing analysis of patient-reported outcomes (including GIQLI questionnaires)
- Presenting study results at national and international conferences
- Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of researchers
- Regular participation in the University's graduate program
Your personality
- Master's degree in Health Sciences, Nutrition, Public Health, or related field
- Strong background in clinical research methodology and study design
- Experience with patient recruitment and management in clinical trials
- Familiarity with patient-reported outcome measures and their analysis
- Knowledge of statistical analysis methods in clinical research
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in German (patient interactions will be in German) and English
