You will join Roche’s Institute of Human Biology , an organization within pRED whose goal is to harness and advance the use of human model systems in drug discovery and development, as well as personalized medicine. Our interdisciplinary research bridges academic and pharmaceutical research, connecting biologists, engineers, and data scientists.
With the continued expansion of the IHB and the upcoming move to a new building, we are seeking organizational, strategic and leadership support for our Lab Infrastructure and Lab Operations. As the Head of Laboratory Infrastructure of the IHB you will be responsible for providing access to the research environment of the future to IHB researchers as well as for leading and coordinating all activities pertaining to the day-to-day Lab Operations functions of the IHB.
Role Mission
The Lab manager for the Roche Institute of Human Biology (IHB) will support the establishment of a newly formed IHB, whose goal is to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process through innovative and bold ideas focused on advancing more predictive human model systems. The Lab manager will help establish and lab spaces focussed on human in-vitro systems. She/he will work closely with the Lead Scientists of every lab to ensure the proper and compliant use of lab workspaces for the members of the teams. She/he would aid and/or coordinate inter- and intra- Institute lab spaces and equipment. She/he will work in close collaboration with other scientists to provide access to standard operating procedures (SOP). This is a rare opportunity to be involved in supporting the creation and growth of a new and exciting environment that brings together scientists and engineers from around the world.
Your Impact

Manage tissue processing lab & primary cell culture, including relevant equipment maintenance, reagent ordering and ensuring smooth and efficient general lab operations.

Support day to day activities in the lab and assist with training young scientists, maintaining order in the lab, coordinating lab cleaning, etc.

Train and assist IHB colleagues with tissue processing, organoid derivation and organoid culture techniques, including onboarding new team members

Perform mycoplasma tests on organoids and cell lines.

Ensure SHE compliance and good working practices within tissue processing & primary cell culture labs
Your Profile

Bachelor or Master degree in biology, bioengineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience.

Handling and processing of primary tissue samples (tumor and healthy tissues) to derive and expand organoids, immune and stromal cells.

Hands-on experience in
-
Organoid culture and Primary cell culture
-
Molecular technologies, including transfections, use of CRISPR tools, immunohistochemistry

Flow cytometry
-
-
Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience with iPSC, tissue-derived organoid models and Histo-Pathology would be considered an asset.
