We are looking for anAutomation Lead who is eager to be part of our pioneering manufacturing project as an extension of our biotech, pharmaceutical and chemical production site in Bulle, Switzerland.
About the project
As part of our ongoing commitment to innovation and growth in the pharmaceutical industry, we are launching a major project to build and qualify a production unit for a chemical component used in biotech product manufacturing.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our project team in a permanent contract and get involved from the design phase through to the construction, qualification and start-up of the plant.

About the role
As the Automation Lead for the project, you will lead the definition of the digital strategies of the future production unit. You will be leading and defining the project’s Automation organisation, ensuring the successful execution of the defined digital strategies during all project phases, from basic design to process qualification.
This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of automation technologies.
What you’ll do
- Lead the definition of the digital strategies of the future production unit in collaboration with UCB automation team and IT stakeholders.
- Develop the roadmap and the implementation strategies for all defined digital systems.
- Establish, lead and develop the project’s Automation organisation, in alignment with project objectives.
- Prepare, implement and maintain comprehensive documentation and guidance for all automation processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, partners and suppliers to ensure successful digital strategies delivery.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- Bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree.
- > 5 years in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnological manufacturing as Automation lead or expert.
- Participation in projects of construction and qualification of pharma/biotech units or similar projects.
- Good knowledges of: AVEVA System Platform, Siemens S7 / TIA / WinCC Flex / WinCCc, Rockwell RS Logix / FTView.
- Knowledge in electricity ≤ 1000VAC and ≤ 1500VDC.
- Knowledge in instrumentation and application to pharmaceutical process.
- Strong leadership skills.
- High level of autonomy and proactivity.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization and work collaboratively within a team.
- Good level of spoken and written French and English.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying challenges and implementing effective solutions.
- Capacity to prioritize effectively and make decisions.
