A DAY IN THE LIFE:

As a Controller, EMEA at Tandem, you will oversee financial accounting, consolidation, monthly closing, and reporting to maintain the highest standards of business and financial control. This role is hands-on and works closely with a remote team of Controllers, Accountants, and support staff, bringing strategic insights while managing daily operations to ensure compliance and accuracy across the region.

Working as a Controller, EMEA, you’ll….

  • General Accounting, Consolidation & Financial Reporting:
    • Oversee all accounting operations for the EMEA region with full accountability.
    • Communicate reporting requirements and deadlines to EMEA affiliates.
    • Engage with local Controllers throughout the month to review expected results and address unusual transactions or technical issues.
    • Review and analyze each country's financial statements and supplemental information, including balance sheet reconciliations and reserve reviews.
    • Consolidate month-end financials for EMEA, ensuring technical accounting issues are managed and resolved.
    • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency in EMEA accounting records in alignment with corporate policies, US GAAP, IFRS or other local GAAP.
    • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in financial processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Business Controls:
    • Develop and maintain a robust internal control framework to safeguard financial assets across EMEA, meeting organizational, legal, and fiscal requirements.
    • Coordinate and implement new corporate policies, periodically reviewing local policies to ensure compliance and adequacy.
    • Identify potential risks, allocate resources, and monitor progress in mitigating issues.
    • Oversee coordination with independent auditors, ensuring all audit issues are resolved and regulatory compliance is maintained.
    • Ensure accuracy in EMEA’s balance sheets, and coordinate inventory cycle counts with logistics and local auditors.
  • Team Management:
    • Lead, develop, and motivate EMEA controller/accounting teams, fostering a high-performance culture.
    • Build cross-functional relationships with departments and country managers to support business objectives.
    • Support the short-term planning for the department including headcount, budgeting, training, and systems requirements.
    • Participate in the selection, development, performance appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of staff.
    • Ensure department staff is properly trained, per designated training plan, before assuming job responsibilities.
    • Work closely with regional and global finance teams to align strategies and reporting standards.
    • Support tax, treasury, and legal teams in addressing region-specific compliance issues and financial risks.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, familiarity with ERP/Financial Reporting Systems, and solid expertise in US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Proven ability to analyze trends and compile data for solutions, as well as attention to detail and commitment to high-quality financial control.
  • Strong technical background in accounting, consolidation, and reporting.
  • Exceptional level of sustained attention to detail with a proven ability, tenacity, and enthusiasm for driving highly effective financial control and transactional management disciplines across an organization.
  • Strong prioritization, planning and coordination skills which have been proven under the pressures of a dynamic multi-site/multi-divisional business with competing demands and priorities.
  • Proven ability to effectively coordinate, maintain and continuously improve a group wide accounting policy and control environment designed to maintain the highest standards of professional quality and reliable service.
  • Demonstrable experience in building and enhancing a suite of management financial reporting which adds value and assists the business in achieving its operational goals by facilitating more effective management decision making.
  • Adept at setting own and team goals and consistently overcomes obstacles in order to deliver results.
  • Analytical thinking and trends analysis – can see trends in data and can compile data to arrive at an accurate solution. Gathers and sorts relevant data for analysis.
  • Adept at coaching and mentoring team members. Allocates time and effort to discuss development requirements and provides feedback regarding performance and capability.
  • Fluency in English, required. Additional languages, desired.
  • Master’s degree in business, finance, or combination of equivalent education and applicable work experience.
  • 10 years’ experience in financial accounting or auditing within a mid-sized multinational, including 5+ years in a Controller or Financial Manager role.
