Underwriter II, Commercial Bond

The Underwriter II – Commercial Bonds will support the Regional Director of Commercial Bond and Senior Underwriters in the region in underwriting tasks. This role also develops and maintains business relationships with agencies and/or brokers for the purpose of sales growth and distribution expansion, and with the support of the Senior Underwriters and Regional Directors underwrites accounts based on authority level granted to the role and underwriting appetite.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
· Underwriting under guidance (within limits); preparing individual cases for pricing and modelling, liaising with Actuaries to deliver technical pricing to Underwriter; using modelling systems to aid the underwriting process; conducting research as needed.
· Where granted, you must operate within your defined authority level which will be commensurate with your skills and knowledge. This authority will be periodically reviewed as your experience grows and you demonstrate the competence as well as confidence to exercise it
· Conducting pre-underwriting for renewals, conducting specific analyses for new business, and following up on renewals.
· Analyzes performance of portfolio as well as individual account performance and develops appropriate action to drive profitable growth based upon the analysis.
· Actively participates and contributes to operational initiatives within PRCB to execute the operational plan.
· Works with other members of the PRCB team, Specialty and P&C to develop and pursue cross selling opportunities.
· In collaboration with the Regional team, plans, develops and integrates territory sales plans to achieve top and bottom-line objectives.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
· Education: Undergraduate degree in business, insurance, or a related field preferred.
· License/Certification/Designation: Actively pursuing of AFSB, CPCU or other insurance/finance related certification desired.
· Experience: A moderate amount of commercial or contract surety or related underwriting experience preferred.
· Knowledge: Expertise in bond lines of business, ratings, customer environment and markets. Knowledge of bond underwriting best practices, field underwriting operations and day-to-day underwriting operational needs.
· Skills/Competencies: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Must have the ability to perform duties with independent judgment, with underwriting authority and company underwriting standards.
· Demonstrated decision-making ability required in day-to-day operations and recommending submissions and renewal terms to the Regional Director.

The U.S. pay range for this position is $99,000 - $149,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
