What works well?

The jobs on offer are almost always permanent, which is nice.

What could be improved?

To be honest, my experience wasn't positive at all. Lack of communication, almost non-existent follow-up, and the recruiters didn't really seem to listen. I expected better!

What works well?

The atmosphere is good among colleagues, but distrustful of certain managers, HR and the school management. The climate is not very good, and several examples among employees have shown that it's better to keep quiet. The 7-week vacation is a good point, except that you can't take it whenever you want - at least 5 weeks are compulsory. Meals are marketed as free, but they're not. It's always a good idea to say you work there, and it makes for a lot of networking. A lot of people now know that the atmosphere is bad over there and I get a lot of questions about it, so I often have to embellish.

What could be improved?

I'd found the recruitment process unreliable; I'd been asked to speak English to check my skills, which surprised me when I discovered that my N+1 spoke very poor English. The recruitment process took a long time, I thought I'd been forgotten, and HR were never contactable. Once I needed an intermediate certificate, which took 4 months! Students complain a lot and you often hear "for the price we pay". It's very hard to deal with the fact that they're disillusioned, especially in the first year when they literally have to run the school and produce meals for the staff (who are supposed to be free) and the other students, only to have to pay full price for everything they consume even though they produced it. Students have to take on this role for 6 months and then leave for a 6-month internship in the hotel business, while the vast majority of them have no interest in the hotel business and won't work in it afterwards (a very small percentage of students will end up in the hotel business), the school itself has changed its name and seems to have renounced the hotel business but its system only works with students as free labor who pay to do this! I find it very hard to keep up the marketing rhetoric I'm asked to have when I'm in empathy and compassion with them every day. I think you have to have an executive-type job to enjoy working there.

Employer comment

12 December 2024

Thank you for sharing your experience. I appreciate your feedback and value the opportunity to address your concerns. I am taking this opportunity to share a few elements of response below and would like to invite you to connect with HR, your manager or myself directly to share further details and help us address these issues. • Meals on campus are provided at no additional cost to employees, but legal VAT requirements mean a nominal, prepaid amount is adjusted annually. • Our students train across campus operational stations under faculty guidance as part of their experiential learning. While this approach can be demanding, it’s designed to equip students with real-world skills applicable beyond hospitality. Moreover, EHL is committed to listening to students via various feedback sharing avenues organized internally and, as an organization, our faculty is continuously looking at ways to evolve our programs to better reflect students' interests, educational evolutions and employer needs. • We acknowledge the challenges in recruitment timelines and administrative delays and are actively working to improve responsiveness and efficiency. Should you wish to gain clarity on the challenges you exposed through your experience, I am happy to have a conversation with you. Thank you again for your feedback—it’s critical to our ongoing efforts to improve. Regards, Sonia C. Director People & Organization
