Within the newly created Weather Analysis team, Alpiq is hiring a Junior Meteorologist/Data Scientist, who will be supporting the operational tasks of meteorologists and model development. This role is based in Olten, CH.
Your accountabilities
- Being responsible of monitoring forecast quality, benchmarking, developing meta predictions, and communicating with forecast service providers, you guarantee the highest forecast quality for our renewable energy portfolios and the markets they are traded in.
- Create instruments for the quantitative evaluation of asset risks for wind and solar parks (forecast quality, market value, balancing energy).
- One of your main tasks is the pro-active communication of weather information to energy traders for their everyday activities. This includes real time weather tracking, commenting on meteorological risks and shortcomings of renewable energy forecasts.
- By delivering the information in a timely manner and structured way, your technical expertise will help us with the maintenance and creation of existing and new automated tools, forecasts and processes.
- Create the meteorological input for the renewable portfolio for the day-ahead and intraday time frame.
- Supporting the creation of a strategic trading input for the portfolio of renewable energy sources to enable inputs every day of the week.
Your profile
- Degree in Meteorology, Environmental Sciences, Physics, Math, Data Science, or another quantitative field
- Experience in Energy Meteorology
- Python programming skills with expertise in time series analysis and forecasting
- Good knowledge of version control (git, GitLab)
- Interest in modern data science technologies (Cloud, Databases, APIs, CI/CD, ...)
- Proactive thinker with good communication skills who can move things forward on his/her own
- Ideally fundamental knowledge of intraday power markets and experience with Machine Learning Operation (MLOps)
- Swiss/EU passport or Visa required; we are not able to sponsor Visas for non-EU passport holders for this role
