Job Description
The Flight Management Systems (FMS) Software Technical Manager will lead engineering teams responsible for FMS Software projects, ensuring product safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This role involves strategic decision-making, team development, and project oversight.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for leading a software engineering sub-section responsible for the numerous variants of our Military and Civil FMS Software product lines in cooperation and alignment with Navigation and Guidance (N&G) engineering and business partners. This role has overall accountability for assigned technical focus areas within the FMS product line projects. This role provides technical leadership and assistance to the development team to ensure they deliver on cost, quality, schedule, safety, and technical goals.
This position has the following essential responsibilities:
Lead software engineering teams for Military and Civil FMS Software product lines.
Assist in new business pursuits and strategic decisions.
Develop and train engineering talent.
Support new project startups and drive engineering reuse.
Develop intellectual property.
Collaborate as part of an Integrated Product Development Team.
Ensure compliance with engineering processes and certification requirements.
Resolve engineering issues and escalate when necessary.
Support and develop engineers through regular feedback.
Monitor team progress and drive accountability.
Manage outsource activities as needed.
Define and execute department strategies.
Champion continuous improvement, at point problem solving, and other lean initiatives.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
At least 6+ years of experience in avionics software design & development and/or technical project leadership within an engineering product development environment.

Desired Characteristics:
Effective mentoring and leadership skills.
Experience with DO-178B/C processes and real-time embedded software.
Familiarity with engineering design practices, Agile Scrum, and product line engineering.
Strong communication skills and ability to lead global teams.
Strategic planning and change management abilities.
Travel Requirements:
Our preferred location for this position is Clearwater, FL or Grand Rapids, MI on at least a hybrid basis.
Note, the business may require the employee to come onsite initially for on the job trainings as well as onboarding activities. After that period, up to 20% travel may be required annually to support business needs.
