L'Institut d'histoire de la Réformation, Université de Genève, met au concours un poste de

Candidat.e au Doctorat (4 ans, 75%)

En lien avec le projet At the Crossroads of Early Modernity : An Interdisciplinary Study of John Mair (c.1467-1550), financé par le programme Consolidator Grant du Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique pour la période 2024-2029.

Le/la doctorant.e travaillera avec le PI Prof. Giovanni Gellera et avec un.e chercheur/euse postdoctoral sur un projet qui explore la pensée du théologien et philosophe écossais John Mair selon trois axes principaux :

1. La relation entre la théologie et la philosophie

2. Les activités de John Mair en tant qu'« intellectuel public »

3. Le vaste réseau international et interconfessionnel d'étudiants et de collaborateurs de John Mair

Le projet s'appuiera sur une expertise en histoire de la philosophie et de la théologie, en histoire intellectuelle, en histoire des idées, en histoire du livre et en histoire des universités. Les éditions numériques des textes de John Mair seront créées sous forme de données ouvertes liées.

Le/la candidat.e choisi.e sera engagé.e pour un contrat d'un an renouvelable. Le poste a une durée maximale de 4 ans.

Titre et compétences exigés

Le/la candidat.e retenue aura :

- Une maîtrise dans un domaine pertinent (philosophie médiévale et/ou moderne précoce, théologie, histoire intellectuelle ou histoire des universités)

- Une connaissance pratique du latin

- Une familiarité avec les textes de la fin du Moyen Âge et/ou première modernité

- Une familiarité ou une volonté d'apprendre les outils et pratiques des humanités numériques

Le/la doctorant.e travaillera sur une thèse de doctorat sous la direction du Prof. Giovanni Gellera sur un sujet aligné avec les objectifs du projet, et contribuera aux résultats de la recherche du projet, y compris les événements et les publications.

Le/la doctorant.e de l'Institut d'histoire de la Réformation bénéficiera des activités de l'Institut et d'un environnement de recherche amical et favorable dans un contexte interdisciplinaire, y compris une formation spécifique pour les doctorants/tes. La maîtrise du français n'est pas requise, mais la volonté d'apprendre et de parler le français améliorera l'expérience académique et sociale du candidat.

The Institut d'histoire de la Réformation, University of Geneva, is advertising a position for a

Doctoral student (4 Years, 75%)

in association with the project At the Crossroads of Early Modernity: An Interdisciplinary Study of John Mair (c.1467-1550), funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation Consolidator Grant programme (no. 223039) for the period 2024-2029.

The doctoral student will work with the PI Prof. Giovanni Gellera and with a postdoctoral researcher on a project which explores the thought of the Scottish theologian and philosopher John Mair along three main axes:

1. The relationship between theology and philosophy
2. Mair's activities as a "public intellectual"
3. Mair's vast international and interconfessional network of students and collaborators

The project will draw on expertise in the history of philosophy and theology, intellectual history, history of ideas, book history and history of universities. Digital editions of John Mair's texts will be created as Linked Open Data.

The chosen candidate will be hired on a 1-year renewable contract. The doctoral student position has a maximum duration of 4 years.

Job qualification and requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• An MA in a relevant field (medieval and/or early modern philosophy, theology, intellectual history, or history of universities)
• Working knowledge of Latin

• Familiarity with late medieval and/or early modern texts

• Familiarity with or willingness to learn digital humanities tools and practices

The doctoral student will work on a doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. Giovanni Gellera on a subject aligned with the project's aims, and will contribute to the project's research outputs, including events and publications.

The doctoral student at the Institut d'histoire de la Réformation will benefit from the Institute's activities and a friendly and supportive research environment in an interdisciplinary context, including specific training for doctoral students. Fluency in French is not required, but a willingness to learn and speak French will improve the candidate's work and life experience.
