PURPOSE OF POSITION

• The Fleet Public Health Inspector/Trainer ensures that all Viking Public Health protocols are followed.
• The Fleet Public Health Inspector/Trainer is a crucial link between ship and shore public health personnel and an invaluable resource for public health training and information on the public health state and conditions of ships within the Viking fleet.
• The Fleet Public Health Inspector/Trainer is an effective leader, manager, and trainer with a passion and vision to optimize Technical Public Health Principles Fleetwide. This individual has an exceptional work ethic, motivational skills, and coaching abilities.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

General

• The Fleet Public Health Inspector/Trainer is primarily responsible for performing shipboard inspections to verify compliance with the company’s public health standards and providing onboard officers and crew with appropriate training, which includes the Public Health Academy.
• Ensures, together with ship leadership and the Public Health Team onboard, that ships are prepared for anticipated third-party inspections at all times.
• Trains the Public Health Crew onboard continuously on all Public Health matters to ensure safe Public Health operations.
• Undertake formal internal public health inspections and focus reviews on board the fleet ships to ensure that implemented standards are followed.
• Shares findings with relevant Shipboard and Corporate Personnel.
• Assist the fleet with the development of Corrective Action plans following any audit or review feedback.
• Communicates any systemic concepts and installations identified on board as non-compliant to the corporate public health personnel.
• Is responsible for establishing an annual travel schedule
• Provide out-of-hours service for the Viking Fleet as part of a Rota. This may include traveling to ships and destinations at short notice and responding by telephone.

Public Health Inspections and Non-Conformity Handling

• Assist Public Health Corporates in planning and executing Public Health related internal Inspections.
• Conducts internal Inspections of shipboard public health to verify compliance with all applicable Viking requirements.
• Assist the ships with assessing and implementing corrective actions for non-conformities identified through internal inspections.
• Provides Fleet Public Health Inspection reports to onboard and shoreside management.
• Follows up that corrective actions are completed within the timeline allotted.
• Prepare and Manage all Internal inspections in cooperation with our Onboard Public Health Officer/Specialist, Viking Partners in Medical, Spa, Deck & Tech, and Viking internal functions.
• Delivers information on public health observations based on trends and audit results to Shipboard Management and Corporate Public Health Managers to address in their operations.
• Ensures that previous observations from internal and external Inspections and audit reports are appropriately corrected.

Public Health Training Academy

• Assists, in collaboration with the fleet inspector and manager, in public health training and IPM programs in planning and conducting Viking Public Health Training Academy.
• Trains all applicable PHS candidates according to the set standards and program outlined in Public Health Academy to fully integrate into Viking-set policies and procedures onboard.
• Continuously trains onboard Public Health Crew and other Viking Crew on Public Health topics, which include but are not limited to hands-on training for infection prevention onboard, pest control chemical management, equipment handling, cleaning techniques, time control plans, and out log filing, i.e.
• Assist public health corporations in identifying onboard public health crews across the fleet to attend external training for competence elevations and certifications (VSP training, infection prevention training, leadership training, etc.).

Viking Infection Prevention Control System Program

• Assists in containing and resolving on-board outbreaks of infectious diseases while on board or specifically deployed to vessels of concern.

YOUR PROFILE:

Education

• An advanced knowledge of International Public Health Regulations and Requirements is required.
• A required minimum of 3 years of experience in Public Health, either in a maritime-related Public Health organization or as an Onboard Public Health Officer or a similar position.
• Any relevant environmental health-related degree, diploma, or qualification, including
• any technical qualification that provides for public health elements (water safety, air system
• safety, pool & spa safety, and management) or food safety-related catering
• qualification.
• Any other postgraduate qualifications relevant to food safety, infectious disease
• control, pest control, health and safety, or public health.
• Attendance of any public health-related training courses, seminars, or evidence of any
• relevant research carried out.
• USPH Vessel Sanitation Program Certification; Infection Control Certification; SHIPSAN certification; potable water; recreational water facility or IPM certification or qualifications preferred.

Experience

• Experience in managing complex Development Projects and reporting statuses to Ocean Business Senior Leaders.
• A strong background in Public Health in all relevant areas is required. This includes Infection Prevention and Control, Waste Management, Sanitation, Food Safety, Potable Water Safety, IPM, Recreational Water Safety, Microbiology, Manual and Mechanical ware washing, Housekeeping, Provision Operations, and Onboard Outbreak Control Coordination (COVID / AGE, etc.).
• Demonstrated experience in motivating, leading, and engaging a diverse workforce to increase cooperation and improve productivity.
• Demonstrated experience with Port Health Inspections and carrying out ship Inspections.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• The Fleet Public Health Inspector/Trainer must possess conceptual skills to coordinate and integrate all of Viking’s interests and activities with reference to public health, convey ideas and information to others, and receive information and ideas from others effectively.
• The Fleet Public Health Inspector/Trainer must be able to guide, direct, or influence people, inspire confidence and support among those needed to achieve organizational goals and motivate others to act or respond in a shared direction.
• Knowledge of ship food operations, housekeeping or technical systems, and specific knowledge of potable water systems, hygiene management, and control of swimming pool/whirlpool spas/fountains and maintenance of safety in air handling systems.
• Knowledge of infection control practices and Vessel Sanitation Standards.
• This role will require extensive travel onboard Viking Ocean Ships (60+ % of the time)
• The location of the position can be based remotely or as per negotiations.
• Fluent in English - Must have excellent English communication skills to interpret and orate documents clearly and communicate with Corporate Management and onboard Crew effectively. The ability to speak additional languages is an advantage.
