Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Lean & Flow Intern is an exciting opportunity for a candidate looking to kick start their career in a clinical laboratory.  The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn and practice aspects of lean principles as they apply to the clinical laboratory setting. The Clinical Laboratory Lean & Flow Intern will join the Lean and Flow Transformation Specialists as they work to support laboratory operations.  This position reports to the Clinical Laboratory Director.

This role is intended to be a full-time internship opportunity, during Summer 2025, and will be based in Madison, WI.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Support various Lean & Flow transformation projects that utilize change management tools and process improvements techniques.
• Eager to learn the theory of constraints and how to implement lean methodologies.
• Unafraid to jump in and help identify bottlenecks within operations and assist in data gathering/Gemba Walks
• Assists in problem/bottleneck identification and resolution in the operational spaces.
• Observes principles of data security and patient confidentiality.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and attend/contribute in various Tier meetings.
• Support and comply with company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
• Maintains ethical standards in the interactions with patients, co-workers, and other health care professionals.
• The employee will participate in continuing education and staff meetings as needed.
• Demonstrates adaptability by embracing changes in the laboratory with a positive attitude. 
• May assist in development of objectives, learning activities, and evaluation mechanisms.
• Complies with safety and hazard regulations as outlined in the Clinical Laboratory safety Policies.
• Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment.
• Develops proficiency with laboratory information system.
• Coordinates general workflow in assigned area.
• Remains informed of procedure update and changes.
• Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
• Contributes to a cohesive and collaborative team environment.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

• Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
• Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 75% of a typical working day.
• Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

• Pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree with a focus in STEM.
• Knowledge and familiarity with lean principles.
• Microsoft Office Skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
