At this level the leader, manages, maintains and develops an Underwriting unit to profitably achieve Wholesale Solutions Excess Casualty strategic and financial objectives in compliance with established policies and guidelines. This includes the underwriting of Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability with capacity up to $25 million for risks segmented within the Wholesale sector serving our trading wholesale partners
They will also manage across the three regions East, Central and West to meet P&L budgetary requirements and performance metrics for the unit supporting the overall Wholesale Insurance Objectives.
This individual must possess broad technical expertise across many classes of business and may handle risks within the territory. They should also have and maintain extensive contacts with the wholesale broker network nationally as a core requirement.
This leader will directly lead a team of Underwriters and team leads and coordinate with support staff facilitating professional development of skills, knowledge and competencies across the unit.
The Head of AXA XL Wholesale Solutions Excess will be part of the Leadership team and is involved in setting the overall casualty strategy development of new product areas and expansion of UW teams to align with the overall growth goals for the unit. They will work closely with the other business unit counterparts to deliver as ONE AXA to our broker network and ensure a consistent message and seamless interactions between UW and the brokers teams.
The role holder supports AXA XL’s cross-sell objectives bringing synergy between Primary and Excess and also looking for further opportunities by understanding capabilities across other lines of business and maintaining open communication with colleagues in other departments.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics including est. GWP of $100MM or higher.
- Manage and develop a team of Underwriters consisting of 10 or more people.
- Manage insured and producer relationships across a large geographic territory
- Maintain visibility in the market by aggressively marketing to wholesale trading partners.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Technical experience needed for role.
- Bachelor’s Degree required; professional designations CPCU, ARM preferred.
- Extensive Casualty Underwriting experience required, preferably Umbrella and Excess Liability.
- Moderate to Extensive Management experience.
- Broad knowledge of casualty lines of business: GL, AL, WC, Umbrella; reinsurance concepts and business processes.
- Knowledge of functionality of systems.
- Excellent work ethic.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Self-Motivated.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
- Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
- Excellent time management skills; ability to multitask.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 200,000 - $270,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
