Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF) is an affiliate of the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation. The SCI Population Biobanking and Translational Research Group of SPF leads cutting-edge research to enhance SCI diagnosis, prognosis, and therapies.

Our Swiss National Science Foundation funded PRO-GIDSCI study seeks a motivated PhD candidate to investigate the therapeutic potential of probiotic and prebiotic supplementation in chronic SCI patients. This innovative research program explores the gut-brain axis and its role in SCI-related gastrointestinal complications, aiming to develop evidence-based clinical guidelines and enhance patient care through personalized treatment strategies. The program culminates in advanced data analysis, interpretation of findings, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. The PhD candidate will be registered at the University of Bern and supported by a experienced advisory team of experts in SCI research, microbiome science, nutrition, and clinical epidemiology.

Your responsibility
- Developing a PhD research plan
- Reviewing scientific literature, planning, managing, conducting data collection and performing analyses
- Writing of ethical applications and scientific papers as part of the PhD thesis
- Presenting study results at national and international conferences
- Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of researchers
- Regular participation in the University's graduate program
Your personality
- Master's degree in Life Sciences, Biology, Medicine, or Pharmacy
- Strong background in microbiology, immunology and molecular biology
- Previous experience with bioinformatics is welcome
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills
- Fluent in English with good German language skills
