As a newly established business division of AXA XL Americas, our Middle Market business focuses on the expansion of AXA XL’s current offerings to mid-sized clients in the US Commercial P&C market. As a Senior Underwriting Officer - Property supporting the Middle Market organization, you will play an integral role in AXA XL’s drive towards profitable growth. You will leverage your technical expertise and underwriting experience in Property lines of business with deep understanding of the marketplace to enrich our underwriting expertise and differentiate our offering in market.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Work in close collaboration with Product and Underwriting counterparts as well as broker partners to identify and develop products, key coverages, and endorsements that will differentiate our offering in the market within your assigned industry segments
- Drive underwriting strategy and risk selection through understanding of the competitive marketplace, preferred risk characteristics, lessons from loss trends, and competitor offering.
- Provide account-level support to underwriters and leverage referral authority to enable profitable growth and a balanced book of business in preferred segments.
- Establish excellent working relationships with cross-functional groups including Claims, Compliance, Regulatory, Legal and other functions to engage and collaborate on issues related to the Casualty Lines of business
- Work on behalf of Middle Market team and underwriters as liaison on compliance topics, review all regulatory and compliance components of products the business intends to write, and advise on any business strategies that require input from regulatory or compliance
- Represent AXA XL as a subject matter expert and thought leader at industry conferences enabling the organization to see around corners and stay ahead of industry trends and emerging risks

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Extensive insurance experience and/or training in the areas of Commercial Lines Property and Casualty, preferably with a focused on mid-sized account experience.
- Previous underwriting experience is required.
- Intimate knowledge of the Property market, specifically for mid-sized clients. Understanding of different levers that can be pulled and optimal terms of conditions that the market will bear.
- A university degree, preferably in the area of Business or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In depth knowledge of underwriting principles, rating methodology and Professional Lines products.
- Robust understanding and demonstrated competency of standard policy wordings.
- Possess and demonstrate sound critical thinking skills, robust interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and excellent negotiation abilities.
- Team player with excellent management skills and commitment to continued professional development.
- Proven sales/production record and experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge and experience in working in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 190,000 – 233,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
