The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) will be a next-generation radio telescope that will help to answer key questions in astrophysics, drive technological innovation and support human capital development. However, a new growing challenge of radio interferometers is Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). Radio interferometers are often built in remote and radio-quiet locations to avoid terrestrial sources of RFI, however transient radio sources in the sky such as satellites are much more difficult to avoid. These contaminating signals are often discarded with flagging, but it may be possible to subtract these RFI sources instead.
To strengthen our team, we are seeking an HPC application engineer to work on software for RFI mitigation and subtraction.
