British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a BLENDER II in Southampton

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role? 

The Blender II role is accountable for developing new TBs to establish extract blending capability and innovation in this space, developing a robust patent portfolio, managing blend implementation in the extract space including quality, consistency, of blend specifications. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Establishing industry leading extract blending capability to achieve desired sensory attribute across several platform.
• Coordinate with Analytical and other science teams to address fundamental knowledge gaps.
• Building a robust patent portfolio to ensure leadership position.
• Managing Blend/enabler development activities and analysing portfolio of Global Blends and proposing opportunities for transfer of success, seeking synergies and complexity management.
• Supervising Blend development approach globally ensuring alignment to standards and guidelines and managing the Implementation of new and modified Blends with New Categories, deploy through clear Performance Specifications & Guidelines, and systems management where required.
• Managing the regulatory/stewardship requirements for new to world developments / enablers and managing quality and consistency of Blend specifications (under Central Product accountability) through tracking of monthly Analytical/Toxicological results throughout the defined supply chain (Leaf to emissions), and propose corrective actions where required (with the guidance of Senior Experts).
• Ability to use tracked data, historical results and trends, actual chemical/emissions results to be able to predict blend chemical results based on input materials enabling more informed Extract Blend developments and sustainable Blend changes.
• Managing Operational studies & trials to support processing changes in PMD /SMD facilitating improvements in efficiencies, wastage or product sensorial benefits. 
• Analysing global tobacco utilization data and supporting the preparation of Global propositions/strategies on aligned usage principles within and across categories.
• Tracking and monitoring budget spend for allocated projects.

What are we looking for?

Experience Required

• Previous experience with Blending, Product and Leaf.
• Previous work experience in a FMCG environment, partnering with third party suppliers in the extraction space.
• Experience in developing an inhalation-based product from extracts with good product experience in understanding markets/consumers and translating to technical solutions.
• Solid understanding of processing facilities and capabilities and impact to product.

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

• Demonstrated ability to analyze important factors and variables to drive long-term project success, while effectively collaborating with a diverse group of backgrounds.
• Good initiative and independent thinking.
• Effective communication, briefing and presentation skills.
• Resilient, flexible, and confident to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ambiguous environment with evidence of impactful experience as demonstrated by high-quality publications and patents.
• Ability to identify and use key opportunities for intellectual property.

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

• Degree or equivalent experience in agriculture, agronomy and biology.
