Geneva English School

Geneva English School

Founded in 1961, Geneva English School is a high-quality, innovative private school built on the strong foundations of the British Education system, providing structure and challenge at Primary level, and choice and opportunity at Secondary level. The school currently welcomes around 350 students and employs just over 100 academic, management and associate staff.

We may be English in name, but our welcoming, thriving school community is as diverse as the Geneva area we serve, with over 60 nationalities represented among our students aged 3 to 18. We are deliberately a small school, focused on getting to know our students and their families to ensure that every young person is challenged and supported through their childhood and teenage years.

The GES approach is open, encouraging and outward-looking and we achieve outstanding results, placing GES in the top 5% of British schools worldwide. Our academic outcomes and pastoral care are graded outstanding by the Independent Schools Inspectorate and we are the only school in Switzerland accredited as a British Schools Overseas by the UK government’s Department for Education.

If this sounds like a learning environment where you could make a difference and you would like to join our fantastic team of professionals who put children at the heart of all we do, we look forward to receiving your application!

What works well?

There is a real community spirit that I haven't encountered in any other school in 20 years of teaching. Partly this is due to the small size but also the staff and students. Teachers set an example of kindness and commitment and the students follow suit. One result: the school isn't selective but behaviour is even better than the excellent schools I previously worked at. A previous leader of the school was very unpopular but was unable to erode the family atmosphere - a sign of the school's character and resilience.

What could be improved?

The leadership could make sure their use of student data is always statistically significant.

What works well?

We have an excellent group of colleagues at school! Everyone is well respected at all levels, and it is a very collaborative environment. Parents and students are great too and known to all of the staff. Parents are supportive and involved in life at school.

What could be improved?

We have recently had a change in leadership leading to stability and secure financial management - whilst there are still things to iron out its so much more positive.

What works well?

Working at GES has been a truly rewarding experience for me. The staff is incredibly supportive, creative, and dedicated to hard work, which creates an inspiring and collaborative environment. The new leadership team is really open-minded, approachable, and genuinely caring about the well-being of all employees while maintaining a strong commitment to providing excellent education for the children. They actively listen, encourage open discussions, and make thoughtful decisions to foster a positive workplace culture. There are regular opportunities for professional growth through CPD, drop-ins, and peer coaching, which are instrumental in teachers' development Staff with children can benefit from free afterschool care and reduced fees, allowing their children to enjoy the wonderful educational environment provided by the school. I wholeheartedly recommend working at GES to anyone seeking a supportive, dynamic, and forward-thinking workplace, as well as an excellent academic environment for students. It’s a place where you can thrive both personally and professionally!

What could be improved?

The recent changes in the school’s leadership, with the new Director General and Finance Director, have led to significant improvements in the financial systems and overall organisation. While there is still work to be done, we can already feel the positive impact of these changes.
