Our research group studies epigenetic regulators in blood and patient-derived cancer tissue, focusing on Lung and Head and Neck cancers. We have ongoing clinical trials in which we are identifying new epigenetic biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and treatment. In addition, we are aiming to find new approaches in cancer treatment by manipulating epigenetic regulators in vitro (cell cultures and patient-derived organoids). Our research group consists of clinicians, molecular biologists and data scientists. The position offers broad insight into translational cancer research.
What you can expect
As a highly motivated PhD student, you will play a key role in advancing this research. Your projects will include: 1) Investigating DNA methylation patterns in head and neck cancer tissues. 2) Analyzing circulating cell-free DNA in blood samples from cancer patients, as potential non-invasive biomarkers. 3) Functional validation of investigated epigenetic based biomarkers in vitro models (cancer cell lines and human organoids).
Your Profile
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a Master's degree in biological sciences or a related discipline. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including in vitro cell culture, qPCR, and next generation sequencing (NGS). Basic to intermediate bioinformatics skills, particularly in R programming, are required; these skills can be further developed during the PhD. Strong teamwork and communication skills in English are essential. Proficiency in German or French is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates must already hold a residence permit in Switzerland.
