(Senior) Software Systems Engineer Firewall (80-100%)

Your Mission:

As a Software Systems Engineer Firewall, you will work on improving our SD-WAN portfolio which is the foundation of Open Systems' global network operations. You will be involved in projects from their concept phase all the way through to deployment and operations. Working as part of a highly-skilled engineering team you will build services that improve the performance, availability, and security of our customers' networks without the need for human intervention in the following areas:

• Next-Generation Firewall


• Traffic Identification


• Traffic Reporting

Your Qualifications:

For this position, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about networks, automation, and complex problem-solving.

• Higher education (ETH, university, FH) with a degree in Computer Science or a related field


• Understanding of networking technologies and protocols (e.g. firewalls, dynamic routing, TCP/IP, ...)


• Experience with Linux or UNIX-based operating systems


• Experience in software engineering with scripting languages (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl) and concurrent compiled languages (e.g. Go, Rust, C)


• Proficiency in English

• Practical experience in Go, Python, Perl or Bash


• Experience with the Linux Netfilter framework


• Experience with cloud platforms and technologies (e.g. Kubernetes)


• Experience or interest in eBPF for networking, security, or performance optimization


• Knowledge of network security concepts and practices


• Knowledge of software and system testing practices (CI/CD)


• Familiarity with agile development cycles

In addition to your work in a Development team, you will become certified as a Mission Control Engineer, providing you with knowledge in a wide range of networking and security topics. This will also give you the opportunity to visit our Network Operations Center in Honolulu (Hawaii, USA) for 3-month deployments.
