The Position
A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love.
That’s what makes us Roche.
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED) , we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
In the Small Molecule Research department (SMR) in Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), we generate molecular insights, and drive the discovery and development of small molecules from initial starting points to clinical candidates across the pRED discovery portfolio. In the Compound Library Enhancement and Logistics (CLEL) team, we supply research samples for all SMR portfolio projects and we are also the custodians of the Roche Corporate Compound Collection. Our key focus is to streamline and enable efficient drug discovery project design cycles with the provisioning of a well-balanced chemical space and the timely delivery of research samples that can be subjected to biological assays.
We are looking for someone to join our team in the Roche Innovation Center Basel to help us drive exploration and implementation of new computational approaches to visualize, develop and curate compound libraries as well as ensure translation into delivery of samples using cheminformatics and logistics workflows.
The opportunity
The broad objective of the position is to create workflows and tailored options providing access to chemical space for small molecule lead discovery, to develop and improve data processes and workflows towards sample delivery, and to deliver insights regarding chemical space optimization with a focus on lead discovery and relevant screening technologies, as well as their impact.
Specifically, you will:
-
develop and automate data workflows to ensure optimal use, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Roche Corporate Compound Collection and compound logistics execution.
-
ensure accessibility of high quality chemical sets for lead discovery efforts by streamlining data flows and facilitate the interface to assay owners generating our data
-
expand existing or create novel solutions to optimize the performance of small molecule screening activities in close collaboration with other experts with pRED.
Who you are:
You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking to be part of a dynamic and cutting-edge organization where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and tasks. You are interested in making an impact by providing solutions, reducing complexity and connecting essential elements of the drug discovery process and are passionate about applying cheminformatics and data science to the biopharmaceutical industry.
-
You have a university degree, preferably a PhD, in cheminformatics, computer science or a life science discipline with a focus on computational science or data science.
-
You have extensive working experience with state-of-the-art cheminformatics and data science technologies including programming languages, relational databases, and specialized toolkits (Python, RDKit, SQL, Java, R …).
-
You must be familiar with common pipelining tools such as Pipeline Pilot or Knime and are fluent in generating interactive data visualisations with established tools (Spotfire, Vortex, Tableau, or open source tools).
-
You are a curious and quick learner, who uses strong analytical and problem solving skills to translate complex thoughts into practical applications and solutions including visualisations and statistical data analysis. An experience in statistics including statistical learning and machine learning is a plus.
-
You have strong interpersonal skills to effectively influence, lead, advise, or consult experts in a matrix environment to jointly move projects forward and good presentation and communication skills in English.
The scientific title of this position might be adjusted depending on the experience and seniority of the final candidate.
