The Position
The Analytical Development Biochemistry group, located in Basel, is an integral component of how we innovate healthcare through the invention of differentiated medicines for treating diseases of current unmet medical need. This internship program integrates seamlessly into a European-based University degree program, and therefore we offer the most talented students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with us.
During the internship, your tasks will include:

Familiarization with a newly purchased 2D-UHPLC System

Digging into relevant literature regarding 2D-UHPLC method development and share this knowledge in form of presentations and lectures

Development of an MS based method for the characterization / quantification of degradation products and modifications of biomolecules

Optimization of the sample preparation (e.g., automation) and the HPLC separation conditions

Development of 2D-UHPLC separations of Biomolecules

Comprehensive documentation of performed experiments and developed methods
Who You Are
You are currently enrolled in your Bachelor's studies preferably in Biology / Bio-(analytical) Chemistry / Pharmaceutical Sciences or related and will continue to be enrolled during the entire period of the internship. Alternatively, you are currently enrolled in a Master's program, or you graduated no longer than 12 months ago. Students in their gap year are not eligible.
Due to Swiss regulations, non-EU/EFTA citizens must be enrolled at a university for the entire duration of the internship, and a letter from the university stating that the internship is mandatory for the studies is required. The mandatory letter also has to specify the required duration. Pleaseupload these documents together with your application documents.
If this project is to be used for Bachelor's/Master's thesis, then only if the duration of the internship can be extended by 3 months. You are motivated to increase and share your theoretical and practical knowledge on this emerging and exciting field of liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) / electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and you are an enthusiast of new technologies, and you easily show engagement with people. Experiences in sample preparation of biomolecules and in mass spectrometry in general are considered a plus.
Moreover, you are/have:

Highly self-motivated and science driven

Hands-on experiences in the field of UHPLC separation techniques for biomolecules (e.g., SEC, HIC, RPC, IEC etc.)

Knowledge of Chromatographic Data Systems (preferably Agilent Chemstation/OpenLab)

Knowledge of mass spectrometry data systems (e.g., Bruker, Waters, Thermo,)

Knowledge of data evaluation software (e.g., PMI)

Knowledge about validated CSV system within GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment is a plus
-
Excellent German skills – written and verbal
