The Faculty of Arts of the University of Lausanne invites applications for a full-time assistantship in modern English Literature in the English Department.

Expected start date in position : 1st August 2025
Contract length : One-year contract, followed by two-year contract, renewable once only, for a total of five years maximum.
Activity rate : 100%
Workplace : Lausanne-Dorigny
Your responsibilities
- 50% min. doctoral research (PhD thesis)
- 50% max. teaching and administration
The appointee will be expected to
• Conduct research (50% time) and complete a PhD thesis in the field of modern English Literature
• Teach a first-year or BA-level course (2h/semester), under your supervisor’s direction, in English Composition and/or modern English Literature
• Participate in administrative tasks and contribute to the life of the English Department
Your qualifications
The candidate should have an excellent MA degree in English Literature.
A one-page doctoral project in the field of modern English literature should be submitted with the application. Preference may be given to projects in the fields of early modern English poetry OR Scottish literature (any genre/period).
It is essential that that the appointee has a keen interest in academic teaching.
Applicants should either already be proficient in French or willing to acquire French proficiency.
The ability to collaborate with other disciplines is an advantage.
