Job Description
Your responsibilitiesAre you ready to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in particle physics? The CERN ATLAS Level-1 Central Trigger Group invites you to take part in exciting developments that power the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We’ve recently upgraded key systems, including the Muon-to-CTP Interface (MUCTPI), Timing, Trigger and Controls Distribution (TTC) hardware, and the Central Trigger Processor (CTP) firmware, all of which are now fully operational for LHC Run-3. Simultaneously, we are driving forward the Phase-2 Upgrade, involving the design and implementation of next-generation hardware and firmware.
As a Fellow in the L1CT team, you’ll play a leading role in the development and maintenance of the offline software for both the current and Phase-2 systems. Your work will span:
- Trigger simulation,
- Byte-stream conversion,
- Trigger reconstruction,
- Data quality monitoring and validation,
- Database interactions for trigger and conditions.
You’ll also be at the forefront of operating the Central Trigger system, ensuring its smooth functioning, and advancing its online software development. If you’re eager to work on state-of-the-art systems that are integral to the world’s largest and most complex particle accelerator, this is your chance to make a significant impact! Join us and help shape the future of high-energy physics.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
