Software Development Engineer Intern

Complete an internship project at SOPHiA GENETICS whose mission is to build the future of AI-assisted medicine, joining the Data Science Environments, Technology Team as a Junior Software Development Engineer Intern. 

We are looking for an intern to assist in automating and improving the deployment processes for our genomic bio pipeline. You as Software Engineer Intern will develop a CI/CD Pipeline, to automate the creation of existing tools and services, which are meant to improve and ensure the quality of the highly specialised AI Pipelines of the Data Science Colleagues. You will enable with this a rapid redeployment of services which are needed for each new Pipeline. 

You will be involved in: 

• Designing, building, and maintaining a continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline. 

• Deploying and managing a Kubernetes (K8s) stack, including the configuration and maintenance of services, deployments, and pods. 

• Implementing and configuring Istio for service mesh management within the Kubernetes ecosystem. 

• Working with microservices architecture to optimize software stacks for scalability and performance. 

• Contributing to cloud-based infrastructure management and deployment, ensuring seamless integration across environments. 

Requirements

Technical competencies: 

• Basic knowledge of Kubernetes (K8s) 

• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools 

• Understanding of Helm for application deployments 

• Awareness of Terraform for infrastructure as code 

• General understanding of microservices architecture 

• Basic knowledge of cloud environments and software stacks 

Social skills: 

• Team player: Proactively engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure smooth handovers. 

• Communication skills: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members and collaborate with cross-functional departments.
