Role
The Freight Operator will be part of a small, specialist team responsible for global sales and trading activities in the alumina and bauxite market. This position is suited to an enthusiastic and curious individual].
Responsibilities
The position will be part of Hydro Bauxite & Alumina, Commercial department based in Switzerland. The Freight Operator will be responsible for the operations Hydro's global alumina supply, alumina shipping and trading portfolio to support trading, sales activities, and business development requirements.
- Areas of responsibility – Shipping & Chartering
- Shipping operations - nominations, freight invoices processing, laytime calculations
- Follow-up on vessels' positions, focusing on Alunorte line up
- Coordinate shipping activities with the commodity operations team
- Global demurrage/dispatch calculations & follow up
- Back up for Chartering Manager
- Spot vessel fixtures as required by Chartering Manager
- Maintain shipping portfolio & exposure updated.
- Develop and maintain reports and dashboards providing relevant information related to global bauxite and alumina and freight markets and industry developments to the B&A commercial and the wider B&A organization
- Present market analysis to customers and industry participants in support of the sales strategy
- Support in developing the commercial strategy in co-operation with the B&A commercial team
- Support various strategy processes in B&A commercial and act as the main support for the Head of Market Analysis and the Head of B&A Commercial in this respect
- Support studies relative to long term price forecast for bauxite and alumina, B&A market input for Hydro internal and external reporting
- Some travel required.
Skills
- Strong analytical capabilities: systematic problem solving, anticipation of obstacles, drawing logical conclusions and seeing implications/consequences of solutions.
- Data analytics and data modelling capabilities; Microsoft office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI, etc.); preference for candidates with programming experience (e.g Python) and a solid understanding of database concepts
- Strong interest in commodity markets, economics, and commercial issues
- Knowledge and experience of the aluminium industry value chain is a plus
- Team player with good communication skills
- Ability to work independently and proactively to deliver timely results
- High ethical standards
Profile
- B.Sc. or Secondary School combined with relevant experience or Higher education in business
- Previous experience in shipping operations with owners or charterers
- Have a good understanding of freight market and operational issues
- Ability to co-operate, communicate with external and internal parties
- Ability to develop and maintain good relations across the organization
- Analytical capabilities and commercial mindset
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage a hectic work environment with peak loads
- Fluent in English other languages an asset.
The position is based in Tolochenaz, Switzerland and will require a valid Swiss/European Union work permit.
