The position entails working the Zurich hardware technology incubation team in a work environment of excellence, creativity, innovation. We are an agile and multi-disciplinary team forming part of the wider Apple Hardware Technology organization. With significant lab space, we are pursuing ground-breaking hardware development, realize early prototypes to enable future products and features that enrich the lives of our customers.

Description

You will work on prototype development, beginning with initial hand calculations, progressing through 3D CAD, FEA and finally to realization. You will be able to perform initial technology feasibility analysis by identifying top challenges and evaluate using first principles. There is a strong practical focus in our hardware incubation team, so hands-on experience and a willingness to prototype new ideas is essential. With your experience in design for manufacturing, you will be responsible for early fabrication concepts and process tooling. Your drive and motivation, self-starting attitude will help us to explore new technologies, realize technology concepts, while involving teams around the globe.

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong technical background in a relevant field, for example mechanical engineering, micro-actuation and sensing technologies
• Design of micro-mechanical systems with focus on design for manufacturing using 3D CAD, such as NX, AutoCAD or Solidworks
• Modeling and characterization of complex mechanical systems using FEA packages such as COMSOL or Ansys
• Drive and motivation to conduct rapid prototyping
• An innovative and scientific mindset and approach to problem solving is essential
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to identify critical unit tests to prove feasibility
• Willingness to pick up novel tasks and acquire novel skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven experience in working in an R&D environment including metrology equipment
• Experience in working in a cleanroom environment
• Understanding of process development in a semi-conductor-related environment is preferred
• Technical knowledge and experience in automation is beneficial
