Job Description
Your responsibilities
You are a scientist/engineer interested to join a diverse team of professionals working for the Compact Muon Solid (CMS) experiment in the monitoring infrastructure team.
In this role, you will
- Operate, maintain and develop the monitoring system of the CMS computing infrastructure.
- Support and implement monitoring tools and dashboards for the software and computing teams of the CMS experiment.
- Use the next generation of industry tools to handle Big Data (e.g. Kubernetes, Kafka, InfluxDB, HDFS, ApacheSpark, ElasticSearch, Grafana and Kibana with additional services such as Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics and MongoDB
- Learn enough details to be able to transfer knowledge of the monitoring methods to the operations team at large,
- Actively use the monitoring tools to understand issues and features of the CMS compute infrastructure and autonomously improve the tools to facilitate operations understanding and debugging.

Your profile
Skills
- Experience with Linux service management and system administration, software development and code design, continuous integration
- Experience with python and shell scripting
- Experience with Linux containers, Kubernetes, Grafana and/or Kibana, while not required, is highly desirable
- Experience with Spark and ElasticSearch is a plus
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science, Software Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
