Circular economy and methane-rich gas production
Our client, a start-up based in the Lausanne area, is a leading-edge company in the field of organic waste treatment and recovery. Thanks to a catalytic hydrothermal gasification technology developed and patented by EPFL engineers, it is able to transform organic waste into methane-rich gas, clean water and various minerals. Following the success of this innovative process with an industrial pilot, the company is starting a scale-up phase and preparing for mass production of organic waste treatment units. In order to strengthen its team for this promising project, and to ensure the successful industrialization of these high-tech installations, it has asked us to look for a
You will play a key role in this start-up company made up of high-level engineers and experienced technicians. Working closely with management and R&D teams, you will have the chance to participate in the growth of this company, whose key values are dynamism, flexibility and teamwork.
Main tasks
- Manage the scale-up phase and industrialization of this equipment for industrial series production
- Participate in process design, from conceptual study (PFDs) to technical details: PIDs, functional analyses, calculation of material and energy balances
- Define specifications for the various production equipment, including the components affected by the scale-up
- Drawing up calls for tender, monitoring purchases, and finding new suppliers in line with the evolving technical constraints of new equipment
- Participate in safety studies and analyses, such as risk analyses, HAZOP analyses, ATEX analyses, etc.
- Participate in the commissioning of the first industrial units
- Drafting of process validation protocols (FAT, SAT) and operating procedures (SOP) for industrial units
- Participate in plant acceptance at production site and customer site
- Maintain contact with regulatory authorities for regulatory and safety validation of installations
Your profile
- You have between 5 and 10 years’ experience in process engineering in the chemical, petrochemical, energy or environmental sectors
- You are a process or mechanical engineer (e.g. EPF) or equivalent
- You have solid practical experience in equipment design, preferably in ATEX and high-pressure environments (catalytic reactor, heat exchanger, high-pressure pump)
- You have proven experience in the design of piping systems subject to high stresses (pressure-temperature) and the associated welding requirements, as well as a good understanding of the effects of corrosion on materials
- You are comfortable performing industrial process calculations: material balances, energy balances, valve setting calculations, etc.
- Pragmatic, you naturally gravitate towards solutions that work, and favor practical, efficient approaches, while complying with the safety and environmental standards prescribed by regulatory authorities. You are accustomed to harsh industrial processes and demanding R&D environments
- You know how to cooperate with R&D to successfully scale-up high-tech installations
- Open-minded and solution-oriented, you enjoy teamwork
- An excellent communicator, you know how to make people around you grow, and you are fluent in written and spoken French. You can also express yourself in English, other languages being an advantage
- Willing to travel on an ad hoc basis
