The chair of Prof. Dr. Roland Hodler is part of the Swiss Institute of International Economics and Applied Research ( SIAW-HSG ) at the University of St.Gallen. The SIAW-HSG has a strong focus on promoting young researchers, with recent PhD graduates joining Harvard Business School and the Paris School of Economics. The SIAW-HSG offers a work environment that is research-oriented, intellectually stimulating, and exciting.

Your tasks
- You enroll in the PhD program in Economics at the University of St.Gallen Graduate Programme in Economics and Finance (GPEF) . You are encouraged to enroll also in the Swiss Program for Beginning Doctoral Students in Economics at the Study Center Gerzensee.
- You are working on your PhD thesis in development economics or political economics, with the doctoral supervisor being Prof. Dr. Roland Hodler.
- You collaborate with other researchers of the chair team and beyond.
- You support the teaching activities of Prof. Dr. Roland Hodler in development economics, political economics, and public economics at the Bachelor and Master levels.
Your profile
- You are committed to high-quality academic research in development economics or political economics.
- You have an outstanding Master's degree in economics or a related field (by August or September 2025), and you have advanced knowledge of econometric and theoretical methods.
- You have excellent command of statistical software (e.g., R or STATA) and are willing to learn further programming languages and software packages (e.g., GIS or Python).
