Job Description
Your responsibilities
Are you passionate about beam optics and accelerator physics? Join us in tackling one of the challenges in the future electron-positron colliders (FCC-ee): the Final Focus System (FFS) design. Your work will directly contribute to CLIC and studies for future colliders like the International Linear Collider (ILC), Hybrid Asymmetric Linear Higgs Factory Project (HALHF) , and the Future Circular Collider (FCC) , shaping the next generation of high-energy physics experiments.
As an Applied Physicist, you will:
- Contribute to the FFS design of multiple e⁺e⁻ collider projects, optimizing performance and feasibility.
- Support in evaluating different FFS design concepts.
- Address large emittance challenges posed by plasma acceleration in HALHF.
- Improve and develop beam dynamics simulation tools for FFS optimization.
- Participate in experimental demonstrations, validating FFS feasibility and performance.
Your profile
Skills
- Knowledge of Beam Physics
- Experience coding in Python, ideally with accelerator codes as MADX, PLACET, Xsuite
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
- You have a professional background in Accelerator Optics Design or Electron Beam (or a related field)
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
