Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Communications – Technology & Global Services (TGS) supports the Chief Information Officer & Executive Vice President, TGS in addition to other priority initiatives across the TGS organization. The TGS function at BD is responsible for driving continued digital transformation, cybersecurity, IT systems and process, and Global Business Services (GBS). The Communications – TGS role will lead the development and implementation of a multifaceted communications strategy for the function and serve as communications lead for the company’s digital transformation as well as creation and expansion of Global Business Services. This role will be responsible for creating and launching an effective and integrated internal approach to TGS communications to drive awareness for BD and TGS priorities and cultural priorities, in addition to managing relevant external communications including executive social media content and potential speaking and media opportunities for the CIO in partnership with Corporate Communications.The Associate Director, Communications – TGS will report to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications. The role will be operationally aligned with the TGS Leadership Team and will have three dotted line reports within the TGS organization.

Primary Responsibilities
EVP, CIO and Leadership Communications
-
Create and execute an internal communications approach that drives understanding of functional priorities as well as key corporate initiatives and cultural priorities in a relevant way. Close partnership with TGS HR on employee engagement and culture, and with the LT to identify key storytelling opportunities that show progress against department goals.

Develop a cohesive narrative that positions the company’s approach, opportunity and impact across key areas including digital transformation and AI, Global Business Services and Cybersecurity, with support and pull-through from various teams and resources from within the TGS organization.

Develop the CIO’s engagement strategy including TGS town halls, skip-levels and other forums, and proactively drive agenda setting and content based on having finger on the pulse of the organization and key strategic/cultural focus areas

Support the CIO’s inclusion and diversity engagement efforts, including as executive sponsor of BD associate resource groups

Content and PPT development for CIO presentations to the Board of Directors, Corporate Executive Leadership Team, and various executive-level steering committees and counsels.

Provide high quality strategic communications advice and support to TGS leadership while building and maintaining strong partnerships with senior executives.

Serve as strategic communications lead for Global Business Services (GBS) with support from a Sr. Manager within GBS and counsel from Corporate Communications. This includes advising the VP, GBS (who is also a member of the TGS Leadership Team) and refining and implementing a repeatable cross-functional change management and communication framework.

Oversee the development and implementation of a communications calendar and execution of coordinated communications across TGS.

Develop and maintain ongoing management of effective communications vehicles and channels. Define and implement strategies that keep these channels dynamic and engaging, while introducing innovative and creative enhancements.

Partner with Corporate Communications colleagues to develop communications strategies and materials for high-impact programs.
Internal Communications and Associate Engagement

Understand both corporate and TGS strategy and make it relevant for the TGS function and associates; create and lead a communications plan that drives understanding of functional priorities as well as key corporate initiatives and cultural priorities

Manage the development and execution of strategic TGS-wide internal communications plan and content to drive associate engagement through enhanced awareness and understanding of business priorities and key initiatives.

Serve as liaison between TGS and Corporate Communications to ensure alignment, sharing of best practices and appropriate inclusion of TGS content within companywide communications.

Partner across the function to ensure integration of TGS strategy and cultural priorities into engagement forums and development programs.

Monitor the engagement, impact, and outcome of communication initiatives, and proactively adjust approach as needed.

Lead and manage the development and publishing of content for internal communication vehicles including intranet, town halls, video scripts, emails, presentations, talking points, Q&As and others, and package/elevate stories as appropriate for leveraging at the enterprise level.

Oversee the TGS intranet site and TGS Viva Engage group.
Executive Visibility Communications for CIO

Serve as lead on executive visibility and thought leadership efforts for the CIO in partnership with Corporate Communications, including setting a strategy and identifying target speaking events to bolster thought leadership in the AI and digital space, vetting opportunities and determining appropriate channels and strategic content.

Develop external digital and social content (blogs, videos, social media, and/or other company-owned media) and messaging for executive and company channels that drives visibility of BD priorities and key growth platforms.

Support the CIO’s social media strategy by advising on suggested content and strategic use of channels.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree required – preferably in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or related field.
-
10+ years professional communications in a corporate environment required, with experience working on transformation initiatives – communicating change and bringing people along a change journey.
-
1-2+ year(s) people management experience.

Experience working with C-Suite leaders and supporting technical organizations within a matrixed company and regulated industry strongly preferred (for ex., communications for IT, R&D, etc.).

Experience managing crisis communications for IT related issues strongly preferred.
-
Experience in a large, public global corporation required, with pharmaceutical or health care industry or relevant regulated industry experience highly preferred.

Proven track record working in a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders spanning across business areas and functions.

Experience managing internal communications and executive communications initiatives and background in cross-functional communications programs.

Strong executive presence and ability to effectively communicate to senior leadership and engage across multiple levels within TGS and across BD.

Must possess native or native level written, oral and interpersonal communications skills in English.

Strong presentation skills and ability to effectively work across multiple communication vehicles (presentations, video, intranet, etc.).

Strong business acumen and broad knowledge of industry best practices. Ability to understand relevant information and reflect it in key communication strategies.

Exceptional communication capabilities, experience developing functional narratives and supporting messaging that is appropriate and effective across strategic communication vehicles.

Strong and effective project management skills.
-
Willingness to challenge and present alternative options for consideration.
-
Must be an experienced editor and proofreader, with strong attention to detail.
-
Ability to manage and support sensitive information and confidential matters with the utmost discretion.

Experience in internal and organizational communications, and experience in external communications/public relations highly preferred.

Experience in social media, web and other digital communications technologies and tools.
-
Expertise in AP Style writing highly preferred.
