JOB PURPOSE:
To support students (in small groups or 1:1) in their academic, personal and social development, working alongside teachers to provide the highest quality learning, achievement and overall educational experience for children in the GES Primary school.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Head of Primary, Phase Leaders and Director of Inclusion
TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meetings with class teachers, subject leaders, Head of Primary and Director of Inclusion, as required.

Work closely with teachers and teaching assistants, collaborating and sharing ideas.
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES:
-
Take an active role in the pastoral care of all students with whom you come into contact, helping to monitor behaviour, relationships, personal and social development.

Take an interest in and encourage all aspects of the children’s education, activities and interests, both in and out of school.

Liaise closely with class teachers to understand what is required for each lesson and what specific support is needed.

Support students by: clarifying and explaining instructions; ensuring children are able to use equipment and materials provided; motivating and encouraging; assisting with behaviour management; helping with the teaching of reading, writing, speaking, spelling, handwriting and presentation; helping children to concentrate on and complete work set; developing methods of promoting and reinforcing children’s confidence and self-esteem.

Hear readers, change books and keep reading records up-to-date.

Feed back to teachers any observations or other relevant information to help the children’s learning.

Liaise with teachers about any children with specific learning needs or causing learning concerns

Participate as appropriate in the assessment and evaluation of student progress.

Establish good relationships with parents.

Pass on and discuss any relevant communication with or from parents.

Carry out administrative and supervisory duties efficiently and conscientiously

Provide occasional cover for class teachers, supervising previously planned activities.

Supervise children playing outside during break and lunch times.

Contribute to the creation of a stimulating learning environment around the School.

Show an active commitment to the wider life of the School, including leading and extra-curricular activity and supporting at events.

Show commitment to your own professional development and take an active interest in educational debate and development.

Undertake such other tasks as may be reasonably assigned by the Head of Primary from time to time.

Act in accordance with the policies of the School and in particular with the principles laid down in the Staff Handbook, Staff Code of Conduct, ICT Acceptable Use Policy and Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
-
Experience working with Primary-age children in a classroom setting
- Experience working with children with ASD, dyslexia and/or ADHD would be an asset
- Relevant, recognised qualification

Knowledge of the English National Curriculum would be an asset

Fluent in English - strong verbal and written communication skills; French would be an asset

Confident liaising with the wider community, including external professionals and parents

Positive attitude, energy, creativity, resilience and sense of humour
