Job Summary

Are you passionate about fostering language development and inspiring students to reach their full potential in a diverse, international setting? The Inter-Community School Zurich (ICS) invites you to join our dynamic team as an EAL Teacher in the Secondary School!

As an EAL Teacher, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding students (Grades 6–10) on their journey to mastering English and succeeding in the IB Middle Years Programme. From beginner-level learners to those refining academic English, you’ll provide personalized support, teach targeted classes, and collaborate with colleagues across the curriculum to ensure every student thrives.

Teaching and Learning

  • Teach EAL and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes.
  • Design interventions to enhance literacy and language acquisition.
  • Collaborate with subject teachers to integrate language support across disciplines.
  • Assess students’ needs and progress, providing timely feedback.
  • Celebrate cultural diversity and promote student well-being.
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities and interdisciplinary projects.

Assessment and Reporting

  • Conduct formative and summative assessments to support student growth, providing timely, relevant feedback.
  • Attend Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss student progress and learning goals.
  • Maintain open communication with parents to keep them informed of their child’s academic journey.

Curriculum development

  • Collaborate within the EAL Team to support programme goals and alignment with IB standards.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning for MYP and DP units, keeping all curriculum plans updated.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary curriculum projects, and supervise students on Personal Projects and Extended Essays.

Student Well-Being & Pastoral Support

  • Embrace ICS’s cultural diversity by connecting curriculum with students’ backgrounds.
  • Support student welfare and social development, identifying and addressing any concerns with relevant staff.
  • Contribute to student recognition and school-wide events, such as assemblies and awards ceremonies.

Collaborative Culture at ICS

  • Actively participate in team and Secondary School meetings, contributing to a positive, collaborative culture.
  • Assist with exam administration, class coverage, and school extracurricular activities, including field trips.

The initial contract is for three years and is renewable.
