The team
Man Group’s Responsible Investment (RI) team drives actions to integrate RI in Man’s investment teams. Our RI mission focuses on five key areas: incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) concepts in our strategies; adopting a data-driven approach; in-depth, proprietary RI research; stewardship of our client assets; and education and advocacy to advance the science of Responsible Investing. The RI team is responsible for managing ESG risks and capitalising on ESG opportunities as guided by the RI Leadership.
Purpose of the Responsible Investment Specialist
The RI Specialist will be central to advancing the mission of the RI team. The primary responsibilities are to act as an RI advisor and advocate to three key constituencies: our portfolio managers; our clients and consultants; and our sales professionals. The RI Specialist will collaborate with portfolio teams to drive further ESG integration into their investment process (aligned to our clients’ goals) and analyze the competitive landscape to help inform and shape product development and positioning. They will interact with clients, consultants and prospects to help explain our approaches to responsible investment—from Man’s regulatory frameworks to fund-specific RI/ESG integration—across our diverse set of investment strategies. The RI Specialist will also liaise with our Sales staff to increase awareness of our RI strategies, refine product strategy and drive growth in those assets, in line with our client’s needs.
The ideal candidate should have a passion for and expertise in RI, significant multi-asset class investment experience and be highly proficient in critical thinking and data analysis. Additionally, the candidate should be highly motivated and possess excellent written and oral presentation skills.
Specific responsibilities

Act as an adviser to cross-asset investment teams (quant and discretionary) on RI-related matters.

Identify material strategy-specific RI factors and advise on product positioning, industry developments and client preferences.

Work with Sales staff to identify sales opportunities, drive RI strategy growth and AUM growth across the firm, in line with our clients’ goals.

Act as the RI expert/advisor in client presentations to add ESG credibility to increase Sales’ effectiveness.

Build a deep understanding of clients’ ESG preferences and work alongside Sales/investment teams to develop customised RI solutions to help clients meet their specific sustainability and financial goals.

Understand developments in the RI market such as asset flows and performance trends.

Produce monthly performance commentaries on Man Group’s core RI product offering.

Work with the Investment Services teams to respond to client-related RI queries and produce external RI materials.

Act as a thought leader internally and externally, including presenting at client conferences and external conferences/panels.
Key competencies

Strong interest in environmental and social issues and how they relate to RI.

Interest and knowledge in financial markets more broadly.

Possess subject matter expertise in the RI field. This includes detailed understanding of key ESG themes that affect asset prices and the regulatory/reporting frameworks in various jurisdictions.

Team-oriented and the ability to navigate a complex environment with multiple stakeholders.

Technical skills to leverage low-code / no-code tools such as Excel, PowerBI or JupyterHub.

Demonstrated problem solving ability and intellectual curiosity.

Strong oral and written communication skills. Dynamic presentation skills.

Proven project management and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines.

Degree in Finance/Economics/Business (or similar); Masters, MBA, CFA preferred.

5+ years investment experience with at least 3 years in responsible investing.
