The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy is developing and producing sophisticated protection, control and communication solutions for the energy industry. Within an international environment of multiple R&D sites distributed all over the world we want to strengthen our R&D team with an ambitious PMO Lead and Project Manager.

We are looking for a passionate personality with a proven record in R&D Project Management and a background in a specific R&D disciplines, preferably with some years of experience in Hardware Development.

You are overlooking the entire project in technical and administrative perspective. While reporting the project progress in the Steering Committee and our project reporting tools, you are deeply diving into the technical topics of the project, challenging the R&D teams on their offered solutions. You are familiar with all the different R&D Development disciplines such as HW, ESW, NMS, FPGA, EMC, Mechanics.

As pivotal point between R&D development teams, R&D Management, Product Management, Technical Support you have the end-to-end view of the product overseeing the entire system from the customer point of view.

Working closely together with our Product Management, you challenge the Market Requirement Specifications, compile the Technical Requirements and ensure agreement between R&D and Product Management.

How you will make an impact

  • Take over the Project Lead of the 100G Central Unit development of our Fiber Optic Multiplexer System FOX615 which is a crucial project for Wired Communication. 

  • Investigate the technical solution and challenge the R&D Team provide on the system architecture 

  • Challenge the Market Requirements from Product Management in case of controversial topics 

  • Acting as Interface between Product Owners and Global Technology Manager Wired Communication and Product Management. In a second phase, establish a PMO organization within the Wired Communication Product Line 

  • Establish a project management organization which significantly improves time-to-market, budget adherence and quality 

  • Ascertain a proper Risk Management which identifies common and project-specific risks and address their effects on the projects as well as decent mitigation actions 

  • Ensure the working quality of the PMO organization, evolve skills required by the team to support development of future products and systems 

  • Foster a climate of innovation by motivating, guiding and empowering team members 

  • Support the development team with technical expertise and project management skills 

  • In mid-term, extending to the AC R&D organisation currently comprising more than 500 R&D Engineers world-wide Furthermore 

  • Be an active and creative part in cross-functional projects supporting us in our continuous improvement mission 

  • Identify new technologies and tools to increase quality and productivity 

  • Support us in our Innovation Initiative journey to identify new technical trends and solutions which are inevitable for us to be ahead of our competition and leader in our markets

Your background

  • Bachelor or Master/Diploma or advanced degree in electronics engineering or related disciplines 

  • Broad project management knowledge and experience in all project management competence elements 

  • Advanced Practitioner with 5-10 years of work experience. 3 years of project management experience in responsible leadership functions in projects with different complexity 

  • Good knowledge of an underlying R&D development discipline (HW, ESW, NMS, FPGA); preferably in Hardware Development 

  • Solid qualifications in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or Information Technology 

  • Knowledge of environmental standards and / or utility-specific standards of advantage 

  • Proven track record in driving change in development practices 

  • Experienced in international and cross-cultural collaboration and leadership 

  • Excellent oral and written English skills 

  • MI/PMP Project Manager Certification or equivalent would be advantageous
