The Position

Roche’s dynamic and evolving portfolio in Small Molecules, Biologics, and Cell & Gene Therapy, coupled with our expedited pipeline delivery strategy, necessitates a seamless transition from development to commercialization and a reliable product supply. As part of Pharma Technical Operations (PT), the Pharma Technical Technology (PTT) team is crucial in ensuring industrialization and comprehensive technical product management, encompassing SHE integration, facility fitness, performance optimization, and scalable manufacturing processes and technologies.

The Global Head of Drug Product MSAT, reporting to the Global Head of PTT, is responsible for overseeing the entire drug product industrialization process for Biologics and Small Molecules, from design to commercialization, including E2E platform implementation and technical product health. This role also involves significant collaboration with external suppliers and partners to ensure robust process engineering, manufacturing scale-up, and supply chain development, while driving strategic investment decisions in partnership with Development (PTD) and the Pharma Strategy Office.

We are seeking a visionary and seasoned executive leader to elevate and innovate our global drug product MSAT function. This role is instrumental in driving continuous improvement, innovation, and strategic initiatives to enhance our manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead a global team of approximately 65 people, including senior group heads and scientific experts. Drive a culture of excellence and innovation.

  • Product Health and Process Robustness: Establish a robust product performance ecosystem, leveraging advanced data analytics and collaborating closely with technical product teams and quality assurance.

  • Supply Continuity and Network Optimization: Ensure a continuous and uninterrupted supply by redesigning and optimizing our manufacturing network in collaboration with site production, product development, and sustainability initiatives.

  • Innovation and Strategic Investment: Guide teams through innovation processes, from concept to pilot implementation, making strategic investment decisions at the Technical Portfolio Council.

  • Process Standardization: Define and orchestrate process standardization across the network, ensuring robust quality system processes.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Manage and leverage relationships with key suppliers and external stakeholders to ensure product supply and foster technology innovation.

  • Financial Performance: Oversee the budget and financial performance of the organization, ensuring responsible financial management and alignment with strategic goals.

  • Senior Leadership Engagement: Actively participate in key PT senior management decision-making processes and cross-functional leadership teams.

Key Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Experience: Minimum 15 years relevant experience in a senior leadership role within the Pharmaceutical/Bio Pharmaceutical industry. Experience in Quality, Compliance, Regulatory, manufacturing, and/or validation preferred.

  • Education: BA/BS/MS or PhD in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy, or equivalent. A PhD is advantageous.

  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in sterile aseptic manufacturing, drug product technology industrialization, and process development for both small and large molecules.
