FUNCTION: Market Access & Corporate Affairs

REPORTS TO: General Manager Switzerland

Based in Geneva, Eli Lilly (Suisse) SA focuses on commercial activities.

We provide high-quality services to Swiss healthcare professionals so that patients can be provided with top-notch solutions that improve their quality of life.

Purpose & Context

The Head of Market Access and Corporate Affairs (MACA) owns (i.e. initiates, develops, and implements) all phases of the market access & pricing strategy in Switzerland to maximize price and reimbursement of company products. He/She also owns the external policy and media engagement to develop an environment that rewards innovation and ensure innovation readiness in Switzerland. As part of the Swiss affiliate lead team, he/she plays an active role in the leadership of the affiliate, representing the MACA functions and shaping the affiliate strategy together with the lead team. Key to success will be strong leadership, the ability to develop a highly efficient and effective team, and the ability to work with and build consensus among a wide range of partners, including internal and external stakeholders.

The MACA leader is also responsible for the P&L of all mature and legacy products in the Swiss Affiliate.

Switzerland is a Federation of 26 cantons with access hurdles at national, cantonal, and local level. Each canton has its own elected government. There are four official languages (French, German, Italian and Romansh), and within the country, there are very distinctive cultures and mind-sets. To be successful, it is essential to be at ease with and be able to navigate at both the cantonal and federal government level. In addition, he/she is a key representative for external parties such as media, politicians, key stakeholders in the healthcare system (including the Ministry of Health and Swissmedic) in industry associations, professional institutions, advocacy groups and patient organizations as well as the financial community, ensuring that the organization’s operations and objectives are represented positively and accurately.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

PRA Strategy and Execution

  • Initiates, develops, and implements all phases of the market access & pricing strategy to ensure on strategy reimbursements and price maintenance of company products.
  • Owns all the negotiations with the ministry of health and health insurances
  • Creates an environment that cuts across organisational boundaries and adopts best practices.
  • Consistently encourages and exemplifies “Team Lilly” behaviours that uphold Lilly values and enables team members to feel valued and cared for.
  • Leads and inspires team through organizational transformation and execution excellence.
  • Provides active coaching, development and mentoring to the team.
  • Operates with high integrity, complies with Lilly policies and procedures, external legal and compliance requirements, and coaches to ensure understanding of and compliance with all Lilly policies and procedures as well as external legal and compliance requirements within the MACA team.

Corporate Affairs

  • Ensures that the organization’s operations and objectives are represented positively and accurately to the media, the financial community, the public and centers of influence.
  • Directs the formulation of corporate relations policy and strategy in collaboration with the General Manager
  • Acts as an ambassador to create a favorable public image for the company through information services, establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with media and governmental officials.
  • Lobbies for favorable governmental policies and regulations.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with external partners including patient advocacy groups, regulators, and opinion formers.
  • Elaborates regulations and the observance of legal procedures, ensuring that the activities of the company comply with the law, in collaboration with the regional legal counsel.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background
  • A higher degree (Masters or PhD) in health science related disciplines or business are an advantage

Skills & Attributes:

  • At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible management experience in Market Access and Corporate Affairs
  • Strong track record of market access successes
  • Deep understanding of country pharmaceutical and economic environment, and HTA process and policy
  • Participation in trade associations as appropriate (based on level of association)
  • Involvement in political landscape/ appropriate participation in policy initiatives
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, plan, execute and lead strategic plans
  • Current and in-depth knowledge of therapeutic areas and trends
  • Strong network of relationships in the Swiss pharmaceutical industry
  • Proven ability to work with and build consensus among a wide range of partners, including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in challenging situations.
  • Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills, able to be humble yet inspire respect and trust from others.
  • Very strong organizational & prioritization skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to and embrace constant change and to learn from new situations.
  • Team player working in a diverse multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment, pro-active with respect to informing and consulting with other stakeholders

Languages

  • Fluent in German and English mandatory; French a strong asset.
